State House Dome Restoration

Built in 1819, New Hampshire's State House is the nation's oldest capitol building where legislature still meets in the original chambers. Careful coordination with State historic preservation agencies was imperative to this project's success.

Restoration included forensic analysis of existing dome guilding conditions to identify the failure of the previous guilding process. The dome, latern roof, and eagle were then stripped down to their original copper and multiple undercoat layers and sizing were applied, followed by the application of gold leaf to renew all to their original luster.

Wood moldings, paneling, intricate wood detailing, glass, and cast iron railings were also repaired/restored.
