Colby College Occupies Phase I of Renovations to Roberts Union

Colby College students are enjoying their newly renovated student residences at the Roberts Union Building. Lavallee Brensinger Architects helped Colby discover the possibilities for converting second and third floor academic and administrative space into new single, double and suite-style living units with common areas and function rooms for students to learn, collaborate, and socialize.

Unique to Roberts was the opportunity to renew the existing north porch, allowing students outdoor access to stunning views of the College’s impressive athletic facilities and the western Maine mountains.

The highly sustainable and forward-thinking approach to the project was in line with the College’s mission and Lavallee Brensinger’s commitment to environmentally sustainable design. New exterior envelope upgrades, historically appropriate and highly efficient replacement windows, LED lighting and modern HVAC systems and controls were included in the renovation. The project is designed to receive LEED Gold certification, which is anticipated in early 2016.
