Medical Education and Clinical Simulation
Lavallee Brensinger and BarberMcMurry Architects (Architect of Record) are working with Roane State Community College as part of a larger project, the new simulation center brings groups of learners from multiple disciplines together to focus on patient care experience throughout the lifespan of an incident. This will start at the site of injury or illness through the return home. As such the program includes the following flexible simulation labs; simulated home/apartment, ambulance and support space, Emergency Department decontamination and trauma, inpatient (Med/Surg, Critical Care, and Labor & Delivery), and a simulated nursing unit and outpatient clinic setting. The Center is designed to promote effective operations through (1) four large Brief/Debrief Rooms, (2) separate circulation paths between learners and faculty/standardize patients and (3) a centralized backstage zone for storage and quick room changeover in between scenarios. Lastly, the Center includes support space for learners, faculty, and standardize patients.
