A New Wing For Celebrating The Arts at Lewiston High School
K-12 Education:
Performing Arts
The School Department selected Lavallee Brensinger Architects to first identify the needs and wants of faculty, students, and the Lewiston community; and to then present options that solve the space deficiencies of their aging high school facility.
Working closely with a Citizens Committee and School Department leadership, we assessed various High School space needs including: Performing Arts, Classroom, Studio Arts, Music, and Administration. A phased expansion approach of the High School was decided upon, with a new secure main entrance identified as a high priority.
In creating a welcoming entrance, representative of the diverse population Lewiston High School serves, students and community members are greeted by the word “welcome” in 21 languages. Modern security measures are embedded in the design and unobtrusive to visitors, offering unobstructed sight lines, a secure vestibule, and a multi-tiered entrance sequence.
All security measures align with staffing availability so that security is easily maintained both during and after school hours.
