The Town of Kingston embarked on a project to upgrade their existing Nichols Memorial Library over 16 years ago. Each proposal placed in front of the town over this time period failed to gain voter support. After working with several architects and reviewing numerous options for either a new library or additions and renovations to the existing facility, the Board of Trustees hired Lavallee Brensinger to review their previous work and propose a solution.
After an intense community-engaged design process that energized the community, the solution was a new 9,900 sf library that addressed the Town’s concerns relating to building size, energy efficiency, future operational and maintenance costs, initial up-front costs, longevity, and the desire for a signature building to fit within Kingston’s historic fabric.
