City Hall North Building Facade Replacement

Portsmouth City Hall’s North Wing is a re-purposed 1960’s hospital building, housing the majority of government offices and the Portsmouth Police Department. An assessment of the condition of the building determined that the north-facing exterior skin was at risk of failure and in need of replacement. The Façade Replacement Project marks the City’s first phase of investment in its buildings and grounds following Lavallee Brensinger’s Programmatic Needs Assessment and phased renovation planning. The project includes replacement of the building’s exterior skin, while leaving the underlying structure intact in order to maintain uninterrupted Police Department and City functions during construction. Lavallee Brensinger’s transformative design using masonry and glass curtain wall is current and distinctive, yet complimentary to the building’s context in historic Downtown Portsmouth.
