Northern Light, Acadia Hospital is committed to providing patient-centered care, and to that end, the hospital is currently undergoing a construction project that will result in 100 private patient rooms. The project includes two new additions, with one focused on children and teens inpatient treatment. The Center will feature small units, two 12- and two 13-bed units, an admissions suite, family visiting rooms, sensory rooms, classrooms, indoor recreation, and outdoor gardens. With the completion of the addition, the adult inpatient program will be able to expand services within the existing building from two inpatient units to four units, all with private rooms and private bathrooms, increased programming space, and an outdoor wellness garden.

The second addition expands the Pediatric Day Treatment Program, opening in June 2023, will now have its own dedicated entrance that allows for patients and families to feel welcomed with strong connection to the nearby outdoor activity park. The overall expanded footprint and renovations increase the number of group rooms, classrooms, consult spaces, and ultimately the number of teens to be served.

The hospital has also given special attention to programs such as the Mood & Memory Outpatient Clinic for older adults. The larger and more accessible space will allow for patient care, ongoing research, clinical trials, and education for families.

Added benefits of the project include the centralization of many support services, increasing efficiencies and cutting down on the footsteps needed by staff to do their job. A larger loading dock, more centralized housekeeping services, a new covered ambulance entrance with increased safety and privacy, and a new pharmacy, all located where needed.

From Facility Assessment to Masterplanning, to Design and Construction, Northern Light Acadia Hospital has set a path for successfully serving its community with a focus on patient-centered care.
