The State of NH Bureau of Court Facilities wanted to replace an existing outdated Rochester Circuit Court Facility with a new modern court facility to serve the Rochester area well into the future. The State identified a new site and retained the Lavallee Brensinger Architects team as project designers.

The proposed facility includes four courtrooms, judges’ chambers, a court clerk’s office, public service counters, security screening areas, a public lobby, and meeting rooms, along with spaces for temporary defendant holding areas and law enforcement. The Lavallee Brensinger team worked closely with the Chief Judge, Chief Clerk, and Bureau of Court staff to create a modern, attractive facility that met their needs. Special attention was given to materials, colors, textures, lighting, and audio-visual systems in both public and court spaces.

The design remained mindful of functionality at the facility. By enhancing security measures in the entrance screening area, public spaces, and court rooms, a more secure building was developed without sacrificing the welcoming nature of the facility. The cooperative effort between the state of New Hampshire and Lavallee Brensinger enabled designers to develop an attractive, modern facility that will serve the Rochester Circuit Court system decades into the future.
