Healthcare:
Valley Regional Hospital set out to revitalize one of its oldest structures, a former nurses’ home dating back to the early 1900’s. The hospital’s goal was to return the building to its original purpose of housing nurses and staff, while updating the interior to meet modern expectations. The renovation preserved the building’s historic exterior and introduced a new layout inside that includes four apartment-style units for stays of three to six months, along with four dormitory-style sleeping rooms for shorter overnight visits.
Located in the relatively remote town of Claremont, New Hampshire, it was difficult to attract traveling nursing staff and visiting medical professionals. Without suitable housing nearby, the hospital’s ability to recruit and retain qualified staff was limited.
This project provides a convenient housing option to better support traveling nurses and visiting medical professionals. By offering on-site, comfortable accommodations, Valley Regional Hospital can now better support both short-term and long-term staffing needs. The updated layout provides modern living space for a range of users, including temporary staff, local employees, and visiting physicians.
