The Principal Investigator’s research for this space integrates electrical engineering with materials science and chemistry to develop hybrid nanofabrication techniques.
The challenge of this project was the control of the indoor environment through the creation of a clean room environment within a 1960s-era building with low floor-to-floor heights, and no immediately available outside air supply.
Using a precise BIM 3D model of the entire space, all FF&E (including benchtop equipment), and all MEP / FP systems, the team was able to strategically develop a successful strategy to meet the Principal Investigator’s needs. This was achieved through a site-built cleanroom design and MEP system, and elaborate effort to route a dedicated outside air source several hundred feet and multiple floors through the building. The team’s expertise in the use of BIM was critical in this project’s success.
